THE 5TH WAVE
SCARELESS AND SHORT
BY GABRIEL JAGGERNAUTH ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2016
The Fifth Wave does its best as a science fiction thriller, but it was shown to have many shortcomings in suspense, plot and acting, even if it does make up for it in a small bit of action and humor.
The Fifth Wave sets itself in a post apocalypse world after four waves of aliens have attacked. Cassie Sullivan gears up to take on the fifth wave of aliens (hence the name of the film) while looking for his brother, Sammy, who ends up working for 'the government'. Along this, we see the film from Cassie's plot, working with a man named Evan (Who saves her and is probably a love interest) as well as Sammy's plot with his group and the leader, Ben. Many characters have deep developments as the movie progresses and we learn a lot from them at the cut short, not much of an ending, end.
The Fifth Wave may have some points for action and humor, as well as romancing a bit (We're looking at you, Cassanie [Cass/{Ev}an/ie], but it falls short in way too many areas for us to give it even a score for a mixed review. Firstly, it was extremely hard to believe at times that some characters were truly injured, as at times, they moved properly through the movie even if they were supposed to be hurt. The plot left for some holes at places, and we were dissapointed with our end. And don't get us started with the lack of thriller scenes for it to be an actual thriller. So many areas made it fall short. We will give it some points for the plot twist, but that ain't much.
The Fifth Wave had so many problems that we have not a clue how this will allow the sequel to turn out. Maybe the director will learn?? But we will give it a 3.2. We hope the sequel is better (And not worse like most)
