DORAEMON
BY: GABRIEL DOMINIC JAGGERNAUTH (10TH, APRIL, 2015)
Doraemon is a Japanese children anime about a Robot Cat sent from the 22nd Century to aid pre-teen, Noby Nobi (Not much change from the Japan Original's Nobita Nobi), to change the outcome of his future. Together, the two get into some pretty wild stuff, sometimes involving their friends Sue (Shizuka in the Japanese version), Sneech (Suneo) and "Big G" (This is where it gets kind of complicated. His real name Takeshi in the English Dub, and it is the same with the Japanses dub, but he goes by a nickname Gian in the Japanese version. Big G is his nickname in the English dub). One good example is the episode "A Visitor from the Future", also known as the season one finale, where Big G gets involved with a criminal from the 22nd Century, and the gang has to capture the criminal.
One flaw I could see with the series is changing literally everything that made the Japanese original worthwhile. We don't speak Japanese, so obviously an English dub was compulsory, and probably some of the name changes. Same could be said for the "Yummy Buns". The part of the dubbing process that Bang Zoom, who was responsible for this, was changing the setting to "A Fictional Town in the US", from it's original Japan setting. That was something we could have enjoyed. They could have kept the money, chopsticks and other stuff, but this does not make the series any less enjoyable. It is a great dub nonetheless.
Overall, the series is working great so far. Minus the major change for an american audience, the series is still keeping the same cred it has in Japan. We hope to see even better for the future. For now, the series is deserving of at least 8.2. We are even hoping for a movie dub in the future (Notably, Stand By Me Doraemon)
